Whiplash is a neck injury caused by a forceful and quick back-and-forth movement of the neck. This rapid motion can injure the bones in the spine, the disks between the bones, muscles, ligaments, nerves, and other tissues in the neck. It is commonly caused by rear-end auto car accidents but you can also get them through sports accidents and other forms of trauma such as a large fall or physical abuse/assault such as getting punched or shaken. With the proper treatment, most people will get better within a few weeks. However, it is important to get it checked out as some people have chronic neck pain and other complications.
